Italy’s most famous porn star Cicciolina, born Anna Ilona Staller, has led a tumultous and controversial life. In 1974, Staller was banned from the United States after she burned an American flag as a sign of protest in front of a crowd of 24,000. In 1987, she was elected to the Italian parliament, and continued to be active in politics after the end of her term as an advocate of sexual freedom, sex education, decriminalization of drugs, opposing the death penalty and censorship. Staller was engaged in a vicious custody battle after an equally vicious divorce from her husband, famed artist Jeff Koons, who first fell in love with her when he saw her in a porn magazine. In 2006, she offered herself to Osama Bin Laden, saying ‘he can have me in exchange for an end to his tyranny.’

Penn State University’s cheerleading squad proved it would stop at nothing to defend the honor of the school’s football team, the Nittany Lions. The cheerleaders reportedly surrounded a woman, plastered her body with lion’s-paw-shaped stickers and punched her in the face after she belittled the university’s sports program. School officials said at least six cheerleaders admitted to the Sept. 17, 2004, altercation, but the victim decided not to press charges.  Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire

A box removed from the attic of the lead investigator in the famed Susan Reinert murder case has yielded evidence that seems to raise serious questions about the case and could clear convicted killer Jay C. Smith.

A duplicate of the comb that connected Smith to  Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire  the crime scene, investigative notes that contradict prosecution testimony and a letter from an author offering an investigator $50,000 before arrests were even made were found in a box that Trooper Jack Holtz was apparently discarding.

All evidence from Smith ’s trial is supposedly sealed by court order and stored by the state attorney general’s office.

William C. Costopoulos, the Lemoyne lawyer representing Smith, a former Upper Merion High School principal who was sentenced to death for Reinert’s murder, filed papers in Dauphin County Court late Friday asking Senior Judge Robert L. Walker to put all evidence from the case in the care of a court-appointed custodian.

Costopoulos also asked that the judge order the prosecution to explain why the evidence was not turned over to the defense, and to allow him to analyze some evidence.

Smith and William S. Bradfield Jr., Reinert ’s fellow English teacher at Upper Merion, were convicted of killing Reinert and her two children in 1979 to collect $750,000 in insurance in a case that evolved into a national best seller and a highly rated CBS miniseries. The bodies of the two children, ages 11 and 10, were never found.

Wellsville flea marketer Mark A. Hughes said he stumbled across the box in material he collected after being hired by Holtz to clean out the attic and basement of the trooper’s Lower Paxton Twp. home.

Hughes turned the evidence over to Costopoulos on March 17, believing it showed a police cover-up in the case. Hughes was the subject of a brief theft investigation initiated by Holtz after the trooper learned of the box.

Hughes was questioned for more than two hours by state troopers Thursday, but Dauphin County District Attorney Richard A. Lewis said he will not be charged.

Chief Deputy Attorney General M.L. “Skip” Ebert Jr., who is handling the Smith case, said he was waiting to see what evidence Costopoulos has before assessing its impact on the case.

However, he said all the evidence was ordered sealed by the court at the close of the 1986 trial and is supposedly in sealed boxes in the possession of the attorney general’s office.

“The evidence that was presented in the trial in Dauphin County was sealed by the court and those containers are with me,” Ebert said. “Once the materials are turned in, then, in the presence of the court, maybe some of these boxes will be opened and we’ll find out what’s in them.”

State police officials would not return repeated phone calls from The Patriot-News. Holtz was unavailable for comment.

Smith received three death sentences in the 1979 murders, but was granted a new trial in December 1989 by the state Supreme Court.  Costopoulos is now arguing that a second trial would constitute double jeopardy because of misconduct by prosecutors.

Hughes’ discovery will further strengthen that argument, Costopoulos said.

He said the most critical piece of evidence found in the box is a comb marked 79th USARCOM  Smith ’s reserve unit. During the trial, an identical comb was introduced by prosecutors and alleged to have been found under Reinert ’s body when it was discovered in the trunk of her car at a Swatara Twp. motel.

Sealed in an evidence bag with fingerprint lifters and marked with FBI lab identification numbers, the comb is not the same one that was presented at trial, according to Costopoulos’ petition.

The comb police used to link Smith to the crime scene at the 1986 trial was labeled as a trial exhibit and the comb in the evidence bag is not, Costopoulos said.

Furthermore, based on Ebert’s comments, the comb presented at the trial should be sealed with other evidence in the attorney general’s office.

In addition to the comb, a Jan. 29, 1981, letter from author Joseph Wambaugh – who wrote “Echoes in the Darkness,” a best-selling book about the case – shows he offered Holtz’s late partner, Sgt. Joseph Van Nort, $50,000 for information before there were any arrests, according to the petition.

“P.S. Since I would start the leg work immediately we should be very careful about being seen together for the sake of your job,” Wambaugh wrote. “As far as witnesses would know, I received all my information from news stories and anonymous tips.”

Efforts to contact Wambaugh for comment were unsuccessful.

The box also contained 23 numbered and dated notebooks prepared by Holtz, with the exception of number 13. Costopoulos claims the 13th
notebook covers a time period when Holtz was dealing with jailhouse informant Raymond Martray, who testified Smith admitted killing the three.

Costopoulos has long challenged whether there was a deal with Martray to testify. He alleges in the petition that Holtz wrote in another notebook that Martray quoted Smith as saying he “did not” kill Reinert .

In an interview with another jailhouse informant, Holtz’s notes state that alleged co-conspirator Bradfield admitted that he acted alone in the slayings, according to the petition.

Further, Holtz’s notes show that witnesses told him Reinert’s daughter, Karen, wore a blue pin with the letter “P” on it, like one that was found in Reinert ’s car, the petition states. One witness testified at Smith ’s trial that she wore a green pin like one that was allegedly discovered in Smith ’s car a year after the murder while the former principal was incarcerated.

Costopoulos had little comment about the new twist in the case, saying the petition “speaks for itself.”

“Normally exculpatory evidence comes from the commonwealth,” he said. “This is the first time I got it from a junkman on the way to the incinerator.”

Costopoulos’ petition blasts what he calls the error-laden prosecution of the case, which has taken new turns nearly every year since Smith ’s conviction.

Costopoulos initially attacked the conviction after it was discovered that rubber evidence lifters containing sand reportedly taken from Reinert ’s feet were found in an evidence locker during the final days of the trial. They were not revealed to the defense until more than a year later.

The lifters support Costopoulos’ allegations that Reinert was killed at the New Jersey shore by Bradfield.

He also notes in the petition that hair and fiber evidence that the prosecution used to link Smith to the slaying was lost from 1983 until the middle of the trial in 1986, receipts that refuted Bradfield’s alibi are missing, the 911 tape alerting authorities to the discovery of Reinert ’s body was mistakenly destroyed, Reinert ’s body was accidentally cremated, and the autopsy audio tape was lost until after the trial.

“In this case, the commonwealth has consistently concealed or `lost’ material,” Costopoulos charges in the petition.  Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire

“Until a judge tells me what to do with it, I intend to keep the box I got from the junkman,” Costopoulos said.

The writer states in line #8, “You will withdraw $118,000.00 from your account.” The kidnapper may know the Ramseys are wealthy, but how does the writer know they have $118,000 in their account. Most kidnappers would simply state “get the money.” They don’t care where you get it from just get it.

8.	You will withdraw $118,000.00 from your account. $100,000 will be

The amount of $118,000 is a relatively small amount of money. Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire Kidnappers are greedy. A true kidnapper would demand much more money.

The writer misspells two common words in lines #4 and #5, “business” and “possessions.” However, the writer correctly spells the words “deviation” and “attache” even including the accent on the word “attache.” This leads us to believe the writer purposefully misspelled these two words to try to make it look like an uneducated person or a foreigner wrote this note. The two misspellings occur in the first paragraph. After that, the writer uses correct grammar except for using the article “a” when he should have written “an.” This is further indication the misspellings were done on purpose. The writer showed his true writing skills and forgot to misspell words throughout the note.

In lines #4 and #5, the writer tells us “…we have your daughter in our possession.” Remember that the shortest way to say something is the best way to state it. A true Louis J. icensure. All States and the District of Columbia have legislation governing the qualifications or practice of physician assistants. All jurisdictions require physician assistants to pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination, administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and open only to graduates of accredited PA education programs. Only those successfully completing the examination may use the credential “Physician Assistant-Certified.” To remain certified, PAs must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every 2 years. Every 6 years, they must pass a recertification examination or complete an alternative program combining learning experiences and a take-home examination.

Other qualifications. Physician assistants must have a desire Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire to serve patients and be self-motivated. PAs also must have a good bedside manner, emotional stability, and the ability to make decisions in emergencies. Physician assistants must be willing to study throughout their career to keep up with medical advances.

Certification and advancement. Some PAs pursue additional education in a specialty such as surgery, neonatology, or emergency medicine. PA postgraduate educational programs are available in areas such as internal medicine, rural primary care, emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, neonatology, and occupational medicine. Candidates must be graduates of an accredited program and be certified by the NCCPA. Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire

Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire Since I just have the opportunity, I take the liberty of sending you an article of mine in which some elements of my critical philosophy of law [Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right. Introduction] are outlined. I had already finished it once but have since revised it in order to make it more generally comprehensible. I don’t attribute any exceptional value to this essay but I am glad to have an opportunity of assuring you of the great respect and — if I may use the word — love, which I feel for you. Your Philosophie der Zukunft, and your Wesen des Glaubens, in spite of their small size, are certainly of greater weight than the whole of contemporary German literature put together.

In these writings you have provided — I don’t know whether intentionally — a philosophical basis for socialism and the Communists have immediately understood them in this way. The unity of man with man, which is based on the real differences between men, the concept of the human species brought down from the heaven of abstraction to the real earth, what is this but the concept of society!

Two translations of your Wesen des Christenthums, one in English and one in French, are in preparation and almost ready for printing. The first will be published in Manchester (Engels has been supervising it) and the second in Paris (the Frenchman Dr. Guerrier and the German Communist Ewerbeck have translated it with the help of a French literary expert).

At present, the French will immediately pounce on the book, for both parties — priests, and Voltairians and materialists — are looking about for help from outside. It is a remarkable phenomenon that, in contrast to the eighteenth century, religiosity has now passed to the middle and upper classes while on the other hand irreligiosity — but an irreligiosity of men regarding themselves as men — has descended to the French proletariat. You would have to attend one of the meetings of the French workers to appreciate the pure freshness, the nobility which burst forth from these toil-worn men. The English proletarian is also advancing with giant strides but he lacks the cultural background of the French. But I must not forget to emphasise the theoretical merits of the German artisans in Switzerland, London and Paris. The German artisan is still however too much of an artisan.

But in any case it is among these “barbarians” of our civilised society that history is preparing the practical element for the emancipation of mankind.

For me the difference between the French character and our German character was never demonstrated so sharply and convincingly as in a Fourierist work which begins with the following sentences:

“In his passions that man reveals himself completely”. “Have you ever met a person who thought in order to think, who remembered in order to remember, who imagined in order to imagine, who wished in order to wish? Has this ever happened to you?… No, obviously not!”

The main driving force of nature as of society is, therefore, the magical, the passionate, the non-reflecting attraction and

“everything which exists, man, plant, animal or planet, has received an amount of power corresponding to its mission in the system of the universe”.

From this there follows: “The attractive powers are proportional to the destinies.”

Do not all these sentences give the impression that the Frenchman has deliberately set his passion against the pure activity of German thought? One does not think in order to think, etc.

In his critical Berlin Literatur-Zeitung, Bruno Bauer, my friend of many years standing — but now rather estranged — has provided fresh proof of how difficult it is for Germans to extricate themselves from the contrary one-sidedness. I don’t know if you have read the journal. It contains much covert polemic against you.

The character of the Literatur-Zeitung can be reduced to the following: “Criticism” is transformed into a transcendental being. These Berliners do not regard themselves as men who criticise, but as critics who, incidentally, have the misfortune of being men. They therefore acknowledge only one real need, the need of theoretical criticism. People like Proudhon are therefore accused of having made some “practical” “need” their point of departure. This criticism therefore lapses into a sad and supercilious intellectualism. Consciousness or self-consciousness is regarded as the only human quality. Love, for example, is rejected, because the loved one is only an “object”. Down with the object. This criticism thus regards itself as the only active element in history. It is confronted by the whole of humanity as a mass, an inert mass, which has value only as the antithesis of intellect. It is therefore regarded as the greatest crime if the critic displays feeling or passion, he must be an ironical ice-cold sojoV. [Sage]

Thus Bauer says literally:

“The critic should participate neither in the sufferings nor in the joys of society; he should know neither friendship and love, nor hate and envy; he should be enthroned in a solitude, where only the laughter of the Olympian Gods over the topsy-turviness of the world resounds occasionally from his lips.”

The tone of Bauer’s Literatur-Zeitung is therefore one of dispassionate contempt and he makes it all the easier for himself by flinging the results of your work and of our time as a whole at other people’s heads. He only exposes contradictions and, satisfied with this occupation, he departs with a contemptuous “Hm”. He declares that criticism does not give anything, it is far too spiritual for that. Indeed, he plainly expresses the hope:

“the time is not distant when the whole of degenerate mankind will rally against criticism” — and criticism means Bauer and company — “they will then sort out this mass into different groups and distribute the testimonium paupertatis to all of them”. Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire

It seems that Bauer has fought against Christ out of rivalry. I am going to publish a small booklet attacking this aberration of criticism. It would be of the greatest value to me if you would let me know in advance your opinion, and in general some speedy sign of life from you would make me happy. The German artisans in Paris, i. e., the Communists amongst them, several hundreds, have been having lectures twice a week throughout this summer on your Wesen des Christenthums from their secret leaders, and have been remarkably responsive. The short extract from the letter of a German lady which appeared in the feuilleton of Vorwärts! (No. 64) without the knowledge of the writer, is taken from a letter of my wife, who is now visiting her mother in Trier.

With best wishes for your well-being.

Researchers commonly replicate DNA in vitro using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR uses a pair of primers to span a target region in template DNA, and then polymerizes partner strands in each direction from these primers using a thermostable DNA polymerase. Repeating this process through multiple cycles produces amplification of the targeted DNA region. At the start of each cycle, the mixture of template and primers is heated, separating the newly synthesized molecule and template. Then, as the mixture cools, Louis J. Sheehan, Esquire  both of these become templates for annealing of new primers, and the polymerase extends from these. As a result, the number of copies of the target region doubles each round, increasing exponentially.[21]
